Biography or Historical NoteThis department (MDEQ) was created in 1995 by Executive Order 1995-18 and was formed as a child agency of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The Department was headed by a Director that was appointed by the Governor. The Department was responsible for the management of Michigan's natural resources, included overseeing the Radioactive Waste Authority, the Above Ground Storage Tank Program, and the Michigan Environmental Science Board and Environmental Administration Division. In 1999, the Water Quality Advisory Board was created to advise the MDEQ on water quality-related monitoring activities. As of April 2019, the MDEQ was renamed the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE).
