Biography or Historical NoteThe Department of Administration was established by Public Act 51 of 1948 to assist Michigan's government with becoming more efficient through better organization of state activity and consolidation of duplicate activity. The head of the Department was known as a Controller and was appointed by the Governor. This Controller was also the secretary of the State Administrative Board, which is currently under the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget's control. In May 23, 1973, the Department of Administration combined with the Bureau of Programs and the Budget of the Executive Office to form the Department of Management and Budget.
