Biography or Historical NoteThe Michigan Department of Conservation was created by Public Act 17 of 1921 and was reorganized into the Department of Natural Resources in 1965. In 2009, the DNR was combined with the Department of Environmental Quality and became the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE). In 2011, Governor Rick Snyder eliminated DNRE and created two separate agencies--the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Environmental Quality.
