Biography or Historical NoteCreated by the Executive Organization Act of 1965, Michigan's Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DVMA) was known as the Department of Military Affairs until 1997. It was comprised of the Michigan National Guard and the Michigan Volunteer Defense Force. The Department was headed by a Director that was appointed by the Governor. The Director’s role included advising the Governor and the Adjutant General on policies and services related to veterans.
