Biography or Historical NoteThe Department of Community Health (MDCH) was formed by an Executive Order in 1996 that merged the Department of Public Health, the Department of Mental Health, and the Medical Services Administration from the Department of Social Services. The Department of Community Health absorbed several other department's responsibilities, including the Liquor Control Commission, Licensing, Monitoring and Accreditation and Division of Occupational Health, and Food Service Sanitation. The MDCH was headed by a Director and was appointed by the Governor. As of 2015, the Department of Community Health merged again with the Department of Human Services to become the Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS).
