Biography or Historical NoteThis Department, formerly known as the Department of Commerce, formed in 2011 by Executive Order and supports business growth. The department is headed by a Director, who is appointed by the Governor. LARA’s responsibilities include licensing of Michigan’s businesses and health professionals and supports job growth within the state. LARA is divided into three segments: The Bureau of Licensing, Bureau of Regulation, and the Bureau of Administration.
